USS CARBONERO (SS-337)

This ALERT was passed to me today. Please alert all submariners. Thank you.

Our ASR/ARS Deep Sea Divers Secretary/Treasurer Chuck Micele sent this in his latest newsletter and I thought it might be pertinent to some of you or someone you know.

If you were aboard the USS Carbonero (SS-337) during any of the following dates: May & June 1965 August & September 1966 or April & May 1968, you should contact the nearest VA Medical Center and request an evaluation from their Environmental Agents Group.

This was the boat that was used for the SHAD testing to determine vulnerabilities to chemical and/or biological warfare.

For more information contact Ted McAnly - his email address is thmjmac@netzero.net .

If you have sub buddies out there somewhere, please pass this on to them and ask them to do the same to others they know.

Veterans History Project

The Library of Congress and its American Folklife Center invite you to join us in an important project -- The Veterans History Project

This project will honor our nation's war veterans and those who served in support of them. How? By creating a lasting legacy of recorded interviews and other documents chronicling Veterans' and other citizens' wartime experiences and how those experiences affected their lives and America itself.

Read the brochure

The Retired and Senior Volunteers Program [RSVP] of Sacramento is co-sponsor of the Veterans History Project in the Sacramento Area. Individual Veterans in the area who wish to be interviewed should call (916) 875-4460 to request the necessary materials.

Documentary on the contribution of African-Americans to the Korean War

Dear African-American Korean War Veteran:

I work for American Radio Works, the documentary project of National Public Radio. We are currently working on a documentary on the contribution of African-Americans to the Korean War. We are trying to track down reunions of all-black and/or racially integrated military units that fought in the Korean War so that we can interview African-American Korean War veterans about their wartime experiences. If you are an African-American Korean War veteran and would like to share your experience of the Korean War with us, please contact me at bgumusdawes@mpr.org by e-mail or at 651 290 1190 by phone.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance.
Sincerely,
Baris Gumus-Dawes
