How to get a State job
(California State Personnel Board) - The State Personnel Board site has information critical to successfully working your way through the process of examining for, applying for, and obtaining employment with the State of California. There are two basic categories of candidates: those who have never been employed by the State, and those with prior State service.
After reviewing the appropriate information on how to get a State job, you will want to identify Open Examinations for classifications that you are interested in seeking employment. You may be eligible for veteran preference points with some examinations. After you have passed an examination you will want to search for Job Vacancies in those classifications. There is also General Information including on-line application forms, pay and benefit information, etc. available for your use.

California Veterans Employment Assistance
(California Employment Development Department) - The EDD takes its commitment to the men and women who faithfully served our nation in the military seriously. California Community Colleges provide an excellent, local resource to assist veterans in their careers, education, or job training. Community Colleges in the San Joaquin Valley have provided detailed information on the programs and resources available at your community college at their Training4Me website. Veterans Now Eligible to Take State Promotional Exams!
As a result of legislation signed by Governor Schwarzenegger (AB 3065, Chapter 590, Statutes of 2008) that went into effect 1 January 2009 Veterans are now eligible to take promotional civil service exams, even though they are currently not a civil service employee. This new law allows veterans who meet the minimum qualifications for promotional job openings to be admitted to state interviews and exams.
