The California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education (CSAAVE) operates under contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA). Under the authority of federal law, Title 38 United States Code, the CSAAVE operates as part of the government of the State of California to approve or disapprove veterans' education and training programs, prevent abuses, and promote quality in veterans' education by evaluating and monitoring education and training programs.
CSAAVE conducts on-site supervisory visits to approved institutions and schools seeking approval, provides technical assistance to all interested parties and are engaged in outreach activities to encourage eligible individuals to use the benefits provide by the Montgomery GI Bill, often referred to the "GI Bill." The programs that can be approved by the CSAAVE are institutions of higher learning (colleges and universities), non-degree institutions (vocational and technical schools), Apprenticeship or On-the-Job Training (OJT), and licensing and certification exams. It is important to note that CSAAVE does not approve flight training. For flight training approval please contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs San Diego Regional Office.
As a liaison, CSAAVE connects with school certifying officials, military education officials, training establishment and business officials, and selected Government officials in order to serve veterans and their families as expeditiously as possible with regard to their education benefits and opportunities. The education of veterans, in-service persons, National Guard and Reservists, dependents of disabled veterans or of those who died on active duty are integral to the development of California's economic workforce interests.
